September 2025

Professor Jaramillo and her colleagues submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency on the proposed rulemaking to reconsider the 2009 Endangerment Finding and Greenhouse Gas Vehicle Standards. Read the comments here.

Professor Jaramillo and her colleagues submitted comments to the Department of Energy on its Critical Review of Impacts of Greenhouse Gas Emissions on the U.S. Climate. The letter argues that the review misrepresents the robust scientific record on the most basic facts about the causes and implications of climate change, minimizes the risks of climate change, and distorts the evidence in ways that undermine sound policy. July 2025

Professor Jaramillo recently completed an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship working for Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03). In her role, Dr. Jaramillo worked on the Weather-Safe Energy Act. This bill, introduced in July 2025, directs the Department of Energy to develop an online platform with downscaled climate data to be used in energy system modeling and to expand funding for research on the climate-driven risks to the U.S. energy system. 

June 2025

The Open Energy Outlook Initiative published new analysis about the electricity grid impacts of rising demand from data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations. The analysis suggests that data center and cryptocurrency mining growth through 2030 could increase average U.S. electricity generation costs by 8% and U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 30%.. July 2024

Professor Jaramillo was recently awarded an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship in the Legislative Branch. Professor Jaramillo will be on public service leave from her academic position from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2025; read more about Professor Jaramillo's interest in policy outreach and her goal for the AAAS Fellowship here.

The College of Engineering at CMU recently released a video showcasing Professor Jaramillo's research and the Open Energy Outlook Initiative.

Professor Jaramillo recently joined the Scholars Strategy Network (SSN). The SSN aims to connect journalists, policymakers, and civic leaders with leading academics to improve public policy.
